Since the start of the pandemic, Dr. Giaimo has provided continuous care for his patients. Simultaneously, he has served as the 125th president of the American Osteopathic Association. His unique, frontline perspective has helped guide meaningful pulmonary-related discussions both locally and nationally in the last few years.
Dr. Giaimo is the only pulmonologist in South Florida named Florida’s “Physician of the Year,” by the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. He was bestowed that honor by his peers in 2010.
His love for medicine started when he was a boy—learning from his father, a primary care physician— who cared for his patients in Norristown, Pennsylvania. Dr. Giaimo had a front-row seat to old-fashioned, quality medicine. He went onto train at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), where he earned his medical degree. His residency and fellowship training followed at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), which is known today as the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
During his training, Dr. Giaimo was chosen by his peers to serve as chief intern, chief resident, and chief fellow.
Dr. Giaimo has continued to lead and serve, not only his patients and his profession but his country. After medical school, Dr. Giaimo served in the
United States Navy (USN) and rose to the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserves. During his time in the service, Dr. Giaimo worked aboard mobile fleet hospitals, various amphibious assault ships, and in critical care units that included, among others: Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland, and Jacksonville Naval Hospital.
Since then, Dr.Giaimo served as the president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association from 2005-2006. He is a graduate of the Health Policy Fellowship and subsequently was one of 15 physicians nationwide tapped to serve on the prestigious Practicing Physicians Advisory Council (PPAC), a small group of physicians appointed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services director to advise the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on medical matters.
Today, Dr. Giaimo continues working as a Florida trustee and is currently president of the American Osteopathic Association. He also continues to work locally with organizations near and dear to him like the American Lung Association.
